The Toothbar story

Dr. Kimberley Barclay and Dr. Lauren Jacobsen met as dental students at Midwestern University. In April 2018 they opened Toothbar in downtown Austin with a simple idea: a dental visit you could actually look forward to.

They designed the office like a hotel lounge, with 15-foot windows, a refreshment bar and the city in view from the chairs. A year later it won the American Dental Association’s Design Innovation Award for new builds.

Dr. Barclay grew up in London and abroad and still travels and scuba dives whenever she can. Dr. Jacobsen is a Chicago native who runs along Lady Bird Lake and never misses a Bears game.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept most major PPO plans, and we verify your benefits before your visit so there are no surprises. Not sure about yours? Call us at (512) 949-8202.

No insurance? Ask about the Toothbar VIP Membership, a dental savings plan, or spread the cost of treatment with Cherry or CareCredit.

Where do I park?

In the garage: bring your ticket to the front desk and we’ll validate two hours. We’re at 211 Walter Seaholm Drive, LR 160, in the Seaholm District downtown.

I get nervous at the dentist. Can you help?

Absolutely. We explain every step before we start, offer nitrous oxide, and keep weighted blankets, pillows, neck warmers and headphones with Netflix at every chair. Let us know when you book and we’ll plan around it.

What happens at my first visit?
  • A conversation about your history and your goals
  • Digital X-rays and, when needed, a 3D scan
  • An exam and, in most cases, a cleaning
  • A clear plan with cost estimates before any treatment
How is The Detox different from a regular cleaning?

The Detox is an express polish that lifts surface stains, great before whitening or a big event. It doesn’t replace your six-month cleaning and exam, which checks your teeth and gums in full.

Do you see dental emergencies?

Call us as early as you can at (512) 949-8202; we do our best to see emergencies the same day. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that’s spreading, call 911.

What are your hours?

Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays by appointment only. Online booking is open around the clock.
